Little Known Historical Facts

Everyone knows Alexander Graham Bell’s first words on his first telephone call, to his assistant was, “Mr Watson—Come here—I want to see you”. Not many know his second call, to his wife was, “Hey… what are you wearing?”

Most people think the Iliad and Odyssey were written by Homer, when in fact, they were written by a different Greek of the same name.

The practical joke of covering a toilet seat with saran wrap dates back to medieval times when it was accomplished with burlap or animal hides. The effectiveness of the prank increased dramatically when clear plastic was invented.

Benjamin Franklin was drunk when he invented daylight savings time. Later, after reading the notes he had scribbled down during his ravings, he commented, “Wow, what a stupid idea. Fortunately, no sane person would ever actually try this crap!”

Had the Titanic left port on time, they would have missed the iceberg that sent them to their watery grave. Ironically, they were delayed waiting for a delivery of 1,000 pounds of ice needed for the ship’s galley.

Several Egyptian mummies have been found to have silly facial expressions under the wrappings. It seems that early embalmers weren’t as serious as we’ve been lead to believe.

An early draft of the Constitution erroneously granted “the right to arm bears”. The mistake was caught, but not before several muskets were acquired by bears. Fortunately the bears were only interested in self defense and no one was ever harmed.
