First, I want to thank my good friend from the UK, Rachel Edwards, for the chance to try these products. She sent me a nice assortment of polishes, nail gems, and decals that I’ll be experimenting with for months to come. Anyone in Wales needs to contact Rachel for a manicure, pedicure, or spray on tan! I think when I go to visit, I’ll have her spray my right arm so I’ll look like a local driver.
But on to the review. Today I tried the Instant Nail Effects by BarryM. It is available in silver and gold foil, and after the flip of a coin, gold won. I should clarify, that these are not foils that require special application; they are polishes in a bottle with a brush. Nothing new there. What is new, is how incredibly even and smooth it goes on. I’m not a professional nail artist by any means, but even I was amazed after the first stroke of the brush. Normally I assume I will use at least two, sometimes three layers, so the first one after my basecoat is just to lay down some color and give the second coat a place to stick. I soon realized that one coat would be enough in most cases, even though it went on very thin and smooth. I have fairly smooth nails anyway, but if you have ridges or rough areas, you’ll want to buff those out or use a ridge filler first or else it will look like spandex over cellulite, and no one wants to see that.
As you can see, the color is very clear and even, but not really glossy, more like a light matte effect. I like it as is, but I’m very tempted to try a black crackle on top. I thing the gold and black would look awesome.
Now that I’m thinking of new ideas, it would be really cool as a french tip as well over black or any dark color. Well, I see I have some things to keep me off the streets for a while. Thanks again Rachel!
